Introduction

Thanks to Off the Hook for offering me the opportunity to post some reports, Updates, and ramblings here. I spend most of time guiding on the Lower Yuba, Lower Sac for trout, stripers, shad, carp, and small/large mouth bass, Lower Feather for spring/fall steelhead, NF Feather, NF Yuba, and many of the waters around Clear Water Lodge in Fall River Mills. I will try to get updates, photos, and reports up as often as possible. Here is a quick one to keep everyone in the loop for now...

I have spent a few days on the Lower Feather and Lower Sac this past week and fishing has been fair to good. There are good numbers of half pound and adult spring steelhead spread throughout the low flow section of the feather. Nymphing with caddis pupa, attractor patterns, and sucker spawn flies produced the most fish for my clients. Good tip for the feather is to cover water...if the fish are there they will usually give you a grab. Don't get stuck in one spot pounding the water.

Lower Sac trout fishing has been good. I have spent most of my time between Anderson and Jelly's. Rubber leggs, sucker spawn, PMD nymphs, and caddis pupa have been catching the most fish. Spring through summer is a great time of year to get out and see some of the lower floats from Barge Hole down to Los Molinos.

Lower Yuba is still blown out with snow melt BUT when it does drop it is going to fish great. Last time we had sustained high water like this was 2005 and once the water dropped to floatable levels the dry fly fishing with big stones and hoppers was amazing. I would expect some of the best fishing in years on the lower Yuba this summer.

Stripers / Shad. Migratory Stripers are up to about Princeton Ferry on the Lower Sac and we are starting to catch a few resident fish outside of chico. With this warm weather we are experiancing this week the shad and stripers are going to turn on.
